Artist's Comments: I just want to improve my marker technique, in this picture. I've already agonized about the drawing errors. ^^ This is the closest to "animation style" coloring I've come, since I usually use pencil, so I'm looking for any helpful hints regarding that style, or marker/CG type coloring.

Keiiii Says: Hoiya~ I myself am experimenting with markers, but I've picked up some tips (thanks to the Estrigious girls and Kitsune ^_____^). First of all, you need to be using the right kind of paper so the markers won't bleed. You can either use bristol board or just bleedproof paper that's made for pen/markers/ink. I personally don't like how cel style colorings come out with markers; marker blendings, on the other hand, can look amazing. Colorless blenders don't work well most of the times unless you don't mind wearing the paper down by insanely rubbing it with the blender. I kind of find it easier to blend when you start with shadings when using markers. It seems that it makes layering-n-blending smoother ^o^ Erg, sorry, this is more like general tips list than a personalized crit, but you always get the shadings and stuff right so~ ^^

Lorelai Says: Mwah! Hi again Amber! Great meeting you at AX...and even better to see ya sketch at AX!!! You have improved leaps and bounds, even between the time you drew this picture and that Krelian sketch I saw you do in the Artist Alley!! Sheeez!!! Okei...I really like elly's costume. You're doing good with that simple shading, it's correct and all, but you do have a lot more to shade, ne? Like, sleeve wrinkles, skirt wrinkles, etc. Also her face needs a lot more shading underneath the eyes, nose, chin, mouth...I know you got some artbooks at AX so look at those for some different approaches. Otherwise Elly's face will look flat. Apply the same sort of dynamic shading to her hair (and add some wind blowing that long gorgeous hair around!!!) and you've got yourself one fine picture of Elly-sama!!!

Young Wang Says: Wah, now after reading your comments on your page, I'm afraid to critique because it might be like adding insult to injury if you're already aware of what you think you've done wrong. =;.;= Just to be fair, I'm going to critique it like I always do, but please, don't get mad at meeeeee. =^.^= I'll start with the positives. First, I think your coloring is not at all bad with marker. I think her face/hair needed greater contrast in the marker shades, or perhaps it's an artifact of the scan, but it's very difficult to see the 'shadow' in her hair and on her face. Your linework is very clean as well. For the general compososition of the picture, I think her head is a little.. small? Either that, or her neck is too thick. =} The rest of my observations are mild nitpicks because I'm not familiar with your art style.. mainly about body type and placement. Because of her proportions, she seems either very tall or semi-waify.. but if I recall correctly, all the characters in XG were tall anyway, so maybe it's just me. =}
