Artist's Comments: I'd like to improve the way I draw two people on the same page. Usually, the people look as if they are different sizes... this is a major problem for me ^^;;; I also want to improve in backgrounds.

Keiiii Says: Okay, I'll be honest: I suck at backgrounds. I think yours look nice, actually ^^ You got really nice colors fo rthem. I also really like how the writings are over one of the charas' outfit! But for that kind of overlapping, I think it might look better if you didn't have any shadings on the outfits. You know, EXTREME artsiness. His fingers look like they have one joint instead of two, which what it should be like in reality... Speaking of which, if you're focusing at the characters, the background should be a little more... blurry? Not so detailed, maybe with no lines. But seriously, you're on the right way. I really like how painted it looks. ^______^

Audra Furuichi Says: Hi Kendra~! I'd just like to say that I really think this is a GREAT picture~! ^__^ It's got that great "artsy" feel to it, which I think gives it a wonderful touch~ :D Your CG style for this particular piece has a shiny painterly look which I think adds to that carnival theme. Truthfully, I have problems with keeping people the right size in drawings as well... and it's just a matter of practice, I think. Or maybe trying to measure out their heights in the preliminary sketches. Although... in this picture.. although the person on the right seems extraordinarily tall, I think they would be the same height.. or close to the same size if standing straight... Perhaps it's just the trick of the eye~ o_- As for backgrounds, I think you have a great simple background. It doesn't detract from the subjects in the foreground at all. You've managed to get in the gradations of the sunset in the sky and it looks great! The trick to backgrounds isn't really the elaborate nature of them.. it's what fits the subject matter and a matter of fixing them both so that they compliment each other. As a last note, I love the writing you drew onto the clothing. ^_^ Although it flattens the image, it's pretty innovative! Most would have drawn it in the background in the sky or something... and truthfully, that would have been distracting. Instead, it draws the eye to what you've written there, to show that there's some importance to it in relation to the rest of the drawing. Great work~! :D

Meriko Says: Okie...2 people on same page...and backgrounds. *looks at picture* ... *jaw drops* WOW~ This is VERY stylin!!! Okay, the critique...the best way to make sure that your people are correctly proportioned in relation to each other is to circle-sketch them in first, and get ready to erase. Draw two heads and two spine-lines according to how you wish to position them on the page, and then eyeball them (or heck, use a ruler) to make sure that they're about the same size. Fill in the bodies using sketchy circles and ovals, always comparing them against each other. Of course, there will be differences, especially when it's a guy and girl. Guy's shoulders are wider, and the girl's waist pinches in more. But the basics are the same...eyes halfway down head, align nose and mouth on the top-to-bottom curve line on the oval that is the head. And as far as backgrounds go...I'm not much into them, but I guess my advice is to make sure they don't distract from the main show. This one, to me, is excellent. The plain part is where the two people are standing, and the more involved, carousel-top is pretty much directly opposite the text, which is where the interest immediately goes. The streaky water-color gives me a really good, late afternoon, end-of-a-long-day kind of feel...this picture has a LOT of mood to it!!! Two thumbs up! And by the way, the text attempt doesn't fall flat at all...I love the choice of words. *^^*

GlassShard Says: Hi! Woah! I love this little drawing, the atmosphere's beautiful, it really feels like sundown or late afternoon. I like the figures too, especially the one on the right, he kinda looks like a member of Hanson. Anyway, to address the issues you brought up, I don't see any problem with the interaction of the two figures, I mean, size-wise, they look fine. They're different ages I assume so their bodies would be different sizes but as long as their heads are roughly the same (except for babies, people all pretty much have the same head size), they're fine. Backgrounds, backgrounds... I'm not the best person to ask about backgrounds but again, the simple building in the back suits the drawing fine. You don't wanna detract from the people too much, right? And the sky is an adequate shade, not too jarring and it seems really natural. No probs there. Except for trivial shading issues, I'm very fond of this picture, so I'm a bad person to ask for a crit... keep up the great work ^_^
