Artist's Comments: Anything that you can help me improve on would be great. This was my first CG. there's no background because my whole purpose was to see how good I was at cg'ing the character. Though I admit backgrounds aren't my strong point. :-P

Maggie Says: Wow!! your picture is beautiful!!! Your profiles are wonderful and especially for two looking at eachother! like they are porportionate, but not identical ( like thier eyesare different) I'm very impressed! that what i find some of the people who come to us having problems with. But anway! Back to business! I like the suddle background you did on this one so dont owrry so much about that. A background that iis too busy might take away from your picture. Just the slight gradient at the bottom give the whole scene such a soft romantic aire! I love it! But one this does stand out to me. Your shading is good, but the light is falling on both faces on the same plce and that just usualy doesnt looks right. If one character is going to have frontal highlights (like bright parts on her cheeks and nose) the then other should have kins of the opposite. Basically I mean to choose alight source and do the shading accoring to how it would actulaly fall. Jst lok at real people in resturants or somthing ( the usualy have good lighting for this kind of thing) to get a feel for this. I think it will really add to you are in the future! I hope I helped! Keep up the great work! I love it!! (Didn't I alraedy say that?? ^_^ v)

Meriko Says: You should be veeeery proud of yourself for spinning something this lovely out on your first CG attempt! *claps hands*

General crit...let's see. Light source seems to be right in between them, judging from the catchlights in their eyes and the shadows on their faces. If that was your intent, then bravo~ But then his hair seems to be highlighted by a light from directly above him, and her hair seems to be highlighted from the same light source...maybe? ^^;;;

The coloring's very nice~ I like anime-style shading. I'm wishing that the guy had a pupil, though. The catchlight in his eye is very large. And while most anime-shades are done quite simply compared to other CG styles and mediums, I'm a total detail-hog. The more detail, the better. Her hair is lovely and swirly, but I'd bet it would look even better with more detail in it. It doesn't have to have every single strange detailed, of course! But perhaps some more highlights and shadows that trace the contours of the waves and curls in her hair... *purr*

Anyhoo, great job on the CG! I see a wonderful career of creating beautiful artwork ahead of you~ ^^

Juno Says: Hoiiii, Aella~! I'll start off by saying, WONDERFUL job~! :D Over everything else, the overall atmosphere of the picture and the interaction between characters shows really well. This kind of execution is tough for a lot of people, and is only gained by experience, so be proud of yourself :D Lessee... looks like Maggie and Meriko already touched on the light source part.... as you continue to get better skill-wise, begin to designate light sources; there is no limit to them, you can have more than one in a picture, though sometimes, it's most dramatic if there is one and if it remains constant throughout the entire piece. I love the texture... it gives your illustration a vivid characteristic. Using blue lines was a great idea too, though some of it seems to get lost in Michiru's hair. I would suggest that perhaps, as you have an almost-white highlight in Haruna's hair, you do the same thing for Michiru.. in other words, lighter highlights, maybe darker greens for the shadows? ^^ Excellent profiles.. though both of their eyes seem a bit close to the sides of their face... perhaps move them back a bit? The flower (uh...forgot what those are called, but anyway) is a great touch.

Beautiful work, Aella. Continue to work in the block-coloring (anime) style, and make sure to explore different mediums as well. True talent and skill lies in how well you can execute what you wish to express.

Ciao for now~! :D
