Artist's Comments: I *really* need to improve the coloring...especially on the hair.O_o' Also anything that might be out of proportion in the pic...anything and everything?^^;;;
I like and usually do portraits, but I also love figuring out different poses and expressions. Working w/ effects and bkgs are also fun.X) I almost always CG my art because it gives me the most freedom (and security cuz of the 'undo' button^^;). I've been drawing anime for about two years...and it's not very good yet so I guess it's intermediate.^^;

Meriko Says: Let's see...proportions & coloring. As for proportions, this is
a chibi-style piccie, so never mind about head to body ratios. *lol* But the
features on her face look like they're in the right places. A good way to check is
to flip the image, in PhotoShop or some other graphics program, or just by holding
it up in front of a mirror. If it looks fine either way, then most likely you're
good to go. ^^ And since her body's all hidden in that nice, fluffy jacket/dress,
it's a wee bit hard to tell, but looks like her arms are the right lenth, bending
at her waist, etc.
As for coloring...ye picked nice colors. Maybe the thing that's bugging you about
her hair is the highlighting and shading? For the furry stuff, her jacket, and the
doll, you used colors that were very close in value to do the coloring,
highlighting, and shading. But on the hair, you used bright white over orange and
dark brown. I'm all for bold highlights, but maybe it just sticks out too much in
contrast? You could use another layer of gray and dark blue to shade her clothes,
and maybe a dark brown to shade her face. Or just soften her hair shadings?
Also, make sure to keep the light source in mind. ^^ From the highlights, it
seems like there's light falling on her head from all around her, and that there
isn't light from above, since the top of her head is dark. If you've got the
original flat-shaded pic of this, then just try re-shading, keeping the light
source constant. ^^ Good work, though! Veeeeery cute.

Ryuuzaki Says: Heyas! So you wanted some help in coloring? Ok...I don't see
that much problems color choice itself. The only thing I'd tell you bout that is
NOT to use any black in shading skin tones. Use blue or violet instead. What
happens if you use black is that skin is pink/peach, so it already has some tint of
white in it, and if you add black, you get a tint of grey, making the person look
somewhat dead. XD
Another thing...the light source is a bit ambiguous. From the shading on the
clothing, it looks like your light source is coming from the top. But from the
highlights and shadows in her hair, it looks like it's coming from the sides! All
the highlights are on the sides, and there's a dark spot on the top of her head.
That's probably why the coloring of the hair looks kinda odd. Highlights and
shadows are in the wrong places. =) Also, when coloring hair, try to focus on
certain strands or entire locks of hair, rather than an area here or there, being
darker than others due to shadows.
Overall, though, very nice effect in the picture. Love the soft colors and
fuzziness of the lines. Goes well with the innocence of the picture. :D

Lorelai Says: Wow...beautifully touching and awesome picture.....I LOVE her
eyes and her hair is awesome too. Her eyes full of expression. *falls over* I think
the only thing I can suggest is that you maybe look into where highlights fall in
hair...the highlights seem a biiiiit randomized, as do the dark shadow parts. her
dress is awesome! it looks so soft. but she's missing legs! I think she'd be
sitting with her legs tucked under her, and her body's all set up to do so...add
them! =D the compositioning is GREAT. i commend you for this pic, it's LOVELY!!!
keep it up!!!
