Artist's Comments: I had a *little* trouble with outlining. I don't think the shading is quite right and the highlights in her hair look wrong. I'd appreciate any comments.
My favorite thing to to draw are anime or manga characters. ( I guess you could call that "human figures") I used pen/ink, Adobe Photoshop, and Paint Shop Pro to make this picture. I'm fairly new at CG so I still consider myself a beginner. Hopefully I will keep improving.

Ryuuzaki Says: Ok, so you wanted some pointers on outlining? Welp, you
definitely have a hold on human figure in this picture, all the proportions and
shapes look pretty good. The lines are a bit severe though. Try to make them flow,
rather than turn at sharp angles, especially since this is a girl, and girls have
more "curves" than guys. :D Generally smooth, thin lines give more of a delicate/
gentle impression. Thick, straight lines give the impression of physical strength/
toughness.
The shading is ok, you just might want to increase the contrast (make the shading
darker or the highlights lighter). If you look from far away, you can't tell that
there's any difference in shading. The highlights in her hair should probably be a
little further up, since the light source appears to be coming from the top. Other
than that, I see nothing wrong with your picture. =) Great job, and good luck
with your drawing!

Laine Says: neee cute girl ! i like her eyes ^^ lessee....i think the
highlights on her hair are a bit too...rough ? nuu and the scarf thingy on her
shoulders...the folds could do some work ne ! try shading them and flow them more
so that they look more natural ! =D same goes her her blouse...and adding some
detail to the bag thing she has on her wouldnt hurt too ;D hm..lastly her cheek
seems a very wee bit bulgy to our right side...maybe correct that ? gambare ne !

Kon Says: Very cute girt pic. The outline does look like a bit too angular.
Smoother and cleaner lines will help a lot. The linework looks like you do short
strong strokes... When you ink or draw in your lines.. try to take longer and more
quicker stroks. This will make your linework cleaner and smoother. They do require
a lot of practice though.
For highlights and shadings... Most of your shading suggest a light source from
directly above. Generally, these types of lighting aren't as interesting as a
lightsource that is... offcentered. Like the shading on the neck.. it suggest a
lightsource from the top left. Making the rest of the shading consistant to this
will make your art stronger. =D Shading and highlights are difficult to master...
I would suggest try studying primatives... spheres, cylinders, cube, and cones.
Then when you look a character to shade.. try to mentally break down it into these
primatives shapes. For example a head can be a sphere, the upper arm can be a
cylinder, etc. The human figure is MUCH more complex than this.. and then there's
clotings... but breaking it down into primatives will give you a good start and a
generaly idea of how to add shading and highlights.
Good luck!.. =D
