Artist's Comments: If the picture looks realistic and if I am shading correctly.

I drew the picture with pencils.

Jen Zee Says: Woohooohooohooo...Purdy doll...^_^ Your drawing is great! It just totally reminds me of this doll museum I live near...Your pic should go up there ^_^ Hahah...Anyway, I can see that you spent a lot of time on the shading and it definitely paid off ^_^! However, some suggestions I'd make would be lessening the amount of outlining done (i.e. on the hands) because often when you have very detailed shading in a picture (like you do on the dress) and also have simple outlining with less detailed shading in the same one(i.e. the hands) it causes some imbalances (you kind of want to say it's real looking, but then you don't ^_^). SO...You should work on accenting shadows and highlights more, and often times you can even leave the contour of something completely 'blank' and the viewer's mind will automatically fill it in according to the shading in other regions of the pic...I hope you understood that ^_^! Try it though! Okei, well I hope this helped a little bit! Agh! I love the hat though ^_^....It's so cute.....

Evil Tiger Says: Hi!

Wow, you're doing quite well with sketching from life. You did a very good job with the actual form of the object, and the shading is pretty well done too. What I suggest though, is try not to make your outlines too solid and dark, it gives the picture a more cartoon look and less realistic. If you're going for realism, use very little outline and focus more on the shading! ^_^ If you come into a spot that's light and won't show unless you have outline, try shading the background instead, so that the lighter part will stand out. A tip I want to give is try using the eraser to "draw" as well, for example, shade an area, and then add highlights by erasing away the pencil. It gives the picture more "texture" and saves some time... ^^

Hope this helps! Keep on drawing, it's great to see artists interested in doing realistic drawings from life.

Laine Says: harroooo~~ hoo hoo realism ! dont see much of those . well lessee...her right leg is smaller than her left leg..and ..there's a straight line there ? dunno but cant really make out it , is there something blocking the view of her right leg ? it seems a bit too straight . like the others said , less outlines for a less cartoony feel ^o^ hm...you need to put in some more detail on the hair.. yes draw every strand out ! sounds tedious but it gives your pic credibility . same for the shoes...hm...the eyes are a bit weird . maybe try to be more careful when draw realism ? dont worry to take your time when drawing realism ! as long as the end result is what you want , even 6 hours is not too long =D
