REFF Ramble!
[ Ramble Archive ]
Hoi~! We've been getting the same questions about the app
over and over, so we thought we'd try to answer the two really big questions
and give you guys a little advice with filling out the app.
"Why such a long application?" is the first question we encountered,
especially with the original version of the application. Well, since I've
just started college, I'll use this allusion - the REFFs are a little more
than roommates. We know every little quirk about each other: strengths,
weaknesses, personality, schedule, interests, priorities, values, etc...
Having a horrible match for a roommate is something I'm sure you wouldn't
want, and we feel the same way. It's a very thorough application because
the current REFFs would like to evaluate you, the applicant, from YOUR OWN
perspective. Chances are, if we don't get along with someone, (s)he will
have a horrible time with TAC also.
We've also encountered the "why do we have to fill out such a long app
if you didn't?!" question. Well, my answer is...which do you think is
easier: working for more than a year trying to raise a website from being
a backwater fanart site to being a large artist community, or filling out
an application? We didn't have to fill out stuff like this because TAC was
basically nonexistent when we joined...I'm sure if you applied to work for
an essentially nonexistent site, you wouldn't have to fill out such a long
application. ^^
With those two questions out of the way, I'll give you guys a little hint
on what I feel is important when answering questions. THERE IS NO
"CORRECT" ANSWER. "Correct" not in the sense of accuracy (of course we
want you to be accurate about yourself, no perjury please), but in the
sense that there's no one answer that will give you any more brownie
points than the next person. Please be honest when answering the questions.
We know that there are no perfect people out there, so don't be shy in stating
your weaknesses, because we have them too. If your answers look too well
manufactured, you won't appear to us as a person, rather as a stranger that
probably wouldn't work well with us because we tend to get personal as a team.
Manufactured answers may look good in a professional job resume, but REFFs
aren't just coworkers - we're also friends. For that reason, I think that
we'll like reading honest, casual answers the most.
Good luck with the app!
Everyone, try your hardest and don't be afraid to let your true personality
show in your entries! A few applications have come in already and I am
personally very impressed with many of them. ^_^ This is a very exciting
time for us reffs as we prepare to welcome a new bunch into the group.
(Heck, I'm getting pretty darn nervous myself.) Good luck to everyone,
and remember to relax and have fun!
